Saint Matthias, Apostle
May 14Matthias, whose name means “gift of God”, was the disciple chosen to replace Judas as one of the twelve Apostles. Matthias was with the Lord since His Baptism, and was “a witness to Christ’s Resurrection,” according to St. Peter in Acts. He remained with Jesus until His Ascension.
According to various traditions, Matthias preached in Cappadocia, Jerusalem, the shores of the Caspian Sea (in modern day Turkey) and Ethiopia. He is said to have met his death by crucifixion in Colchis or by stoning in Jerusalem.

Ascension of the Lord
May 17Saint Augustine first points us to reflect on the Ascension with the words of Saint Paul in his letter to the Colossians (Col. 3:1-4):
Today our Lord Jesus Christ ascended into heaven; let our hearts ascend with him. Listen to the words of the Apostle:
If you have risen with Christ, set your hearts on the things that are above where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God; seek the things that are above, not the things that are on earth. For just as he remained with us even after his ascension, so we too are already in heaven with him, even though what is promised us has not yet been fulfilled in our bodies.

Second Collection on May 17: Catholic Communications Campaign
Through websites, social networks, television, radio, and print, the Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC) helps the Church spread the Gospel message through the media locally and nationally. Half of all donations to the CCC collected in your diocese stay in your diocese to support your local communications needs, such as radio and television programming and diocesan publications

Marian Event at Saint Mark
May 16Gather around the grotto for an "Evening with the Blessed Virgin Mary" on May 16 at 6:45 pm as we celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima (May 13). The Knights of Columbus will be leading the prayers.
Before the event begins, we will have the Fellowship dinner at the Saint Mark Parish Center.

Excell Network Breakfast
May 16The breakfast returns to Saint Mark Parish Center on May 16, 8:00 - 9:00 am. Listen to inspirational talks featuring students who are on the SF Archdiocese Restorative Justice Ministry's reentry scholarship program.
Aerobic Exercise and Body Movement to Music
May 24On May 24, from 1:00-4:00 pm at the Saint Mark Parish Center, experience a fun 90 minutes of warmup stretching, active moving to music, and cool down. Along the way speaker Cathleen Morehouse, will explain the importance of flexibility and stretching, moderate cardiovascular exercise, muscle strengthening, injury prevention, taking heart rates, hydration, and offer additional tips for increasing longevity. Bring comfortable walking shoes, a water bottle, and a good spirit.
Knights Table Update
As May is ‘The Month of Mary’, please plan to join us Knights who will help lead the prayers of the ‘Evening With the Blessed Virgin Mary’ to be held at 6:45 pm on Saturday the 16th.
Our next event will be our annual Pancake Breakfast on July 5th after the Sunday 8:00 and 9:30 am Masses. Tickets will be available before and during the breakfasts.
Many of us Knights attend the communal supper after the 4:30 Saturday Masses. Men who are interested in joining the Council are welcome to attend the dinner and to speak with us to learn more about the organization.
COR Update
Cor: Strengthening the Men of Saint Mark Join us this Monday, May 18, as Michael Craig moderates our next Cor session. Cor isn’t just a meeting; it’s a space for fraternity, formation, and prayer. Whether we’re diving into deep theology or navigating the challenges of modern manhood, the goal is the same: to help you become the man God called you to be.
Last Week: More Than "Daily Bread" On May 11, we went deep into the Lord’s Prayer. Did you know Matthew and Luke had to invent a new Greek word just to capture the original Aramaic meaning of "daily bread"? It’s not about a trip to the grocery store—it’s about a supernatural necessity.

(New) Church windows tour features American-born Saints
St. Dominic’s Church will celebrate the legacies of American-born saints in its 31st annual Twilight Windows Tour on June 21. In the tour’s golden hour, the renowned stained-glass windows cast a prismatic glow throughout the church.
This year, trained docents will incorporate into the tour the holy lives of American saints such St. Augustus Tolton, St. Katherine Drexel, St. Elizabeth Seton, St. Kateri Tekawitha and more.
